What is "home"?

Life is ever changing this we know. Whether good or bad; easy or hard the best way to approach these challenges is with an open mind and a go get em' spirit. These past two months have been challenging to say the least. Mother nature has been as moody with her ups and downs as I have about my current location, job and future plans. But that is life. Without taking on new unknown places, facing fears about leaving the comforts of "home" and a steady pay check one would not see all the other beautiful and exciting things, places and people waiting to be explored. I myself even get caught up sometimes in the familiar, wanting only the comforts of "home". Yet, then again what is "home"? Where do we define such a place? Is it the spot in which are family resides or where are friends gather to celebrate life and mourn the old? Is it a person whom we can go to in the middle of the night for a hug or hold close while conversing about our pain, confusion and c

Found out this evening that I got a job working for the Action Sports Company Woodward, that I work for in the summer at their winter location on Copper mountain in Colorado. The excitement and thrill of being somewhere new this winter is uncontrollable right now. Lately all I have been thinking about is work work work and my book. Now all of a sudden I have this new and amazing opportunity rising in front of me and couldn't be happier for the distraction. This is not to say that I am abandoning ship with my book or other freelance work. It's just nice to be preoccupied for a moment with something else. Speaking of the little thing called my book "Ashe in Wanderland" my brain is like a never ending machine of ideas which is great someitmes yet not so great when I am over tired and in need of a moment of silence in my head. Thankfully, up until a week ago I was still traveling for my last job doing portraits around the east coast and so exhausted from running around

Nearing the finish line, so to speak.

So I've decided to spend this Sunday afternoon wisely by photographing filler material for my book. This way I can spend my next 2 weeks before I leave for work in Pennsylvania, concentrating on my last two photoshoots for this project. I can't believe everything is coming to an end SO quickly (well it has been almost 2 years) but it feels like just yesterday I was plotting out the beginning of this book and now it's almost done. In my mind I am getting more and more excited about the publication of this book. Yet, I also feel sad because to me (and I am sure I am not the only artist who feels this way) the actual making of the book seems more important than the end result. A great man, Mark Robert Halper once said "Vision is a process as much as an approach." Whether you believe it or not as an artist I feel the most excited and in tune with my art, photography and projects when I am fully immersed in them rather than when I am sitting back seeing the final piec
